Sonic the Hedgehog 2 is an old-school arcade game for the SEGA Genesis. In this game, a new character named "Tails" was introduced. In this 1992 game, you must once again control Sonic and battle the evil and nefarious Dr. Robotnik, who has kidnapped all the animals for his experiments. There are dozens of new levels, challenges, and enemies to face in the game. Even by today's standards, the fast gameplay, smooth control, and nice scene transitions make this game highly addictive.
Players, like in the original, travel through different worlds known as "zones," each with its own distinct theme. Nearly every Zone has two Acts, and at the end of each Zone's last Act is a machine controlled by Robotnik that you must defeat in order to progress. The evil Dr. Robotnik wishes to rule the world. To accomplish this, he imprisons and transforms all animals into "Badniks" robots. This way, they can construct his lethal weapon, the Death Egg. Sonic the Hedgehog and his new tagalong companion, Miles 'Tails' Prower, are the only ones who can stop Robotnik and his army of Badniks from taking over the world.
Sonic and Tails can collect rings that are hidden throughout the levels. As with most platformers, collecting 100 rings earns the player an extra life. However, the rings also serve as protection; if Sonic is injured while carrying rings, they scatter everywhere and he becomes temporarily invincible. He will lose a life if he is hit again when he has no rings. The Special Stage is accessible if the player reaches a continue point lamppost with 50 or more rings. In this stage, you must collect a certain number of rings in a halfpipe-like stage before reaching a checkpoint. If you complete all of the checkpoints, you will receive one of the seven Chaos Emeralds.
