Gameplay

The Dino Game is a simple, tough, and addictive game. It's an eternal running game, similar to a straight-line Temple Run with no levels. There is truly no end: once you reach the highest possible score of 99,999, the game automatically resets itself.

• Use the "Spacebar" or "Up" key to begin the game
• Press the "space" or "up" keys to make our 8-bit dinosaur jump
• Press the "down" key to duck beneath the pterodactyls (birds).

You are unable to alter direction and have no control over your speed. You can only jump and duck.

That's more than enough. The game begins slowly and simply. You're running from left to right, with the occasional cactus in your path. Soon, these cacti begin to appear more regularly, in vexing groups of varying sizes. To jump over them, press Space or the up arrow.

You'll see why you can also duck using the down arrow later on. Aside from cactus, there are bird-like pterodactyls that flit across the screen at different heights. Some can be avoided; others can be leaped over. Most people find that ducking helps. It never gets complicated—that's the whole point. But things get complicated.

The Alt key can be used to halt play. After every multiple of 700 points, the game switches into a dark mode for 100 points.

Tips

• One of the most effective ways for dinosaurs to overcome obstacles is to leap ahead. This allows the dinosaur to jump over the cactus rather than waiting for it to collide with it.
• Although terrestrial animals can leap or jump above you, the dinosaur must kneel to avoid flying overhead. Crouching allows the dinosaur to dodge flying reptiles.
• Consider the dinosaur to be still present, but the landscape and barriers are moving around it. This gives you more control over the game and allows you to engage in it.
