About Prehistoric Isle 2

What is Prehistoric Isle 2?

Prehistoric Isle 2 is absolutely insane. You choose one of two helicopters available and blast your way through six increasingly difficult stages. The only thing standing in your way are dinosaurs with the ability to breathe fire.

The booming, wannabe-epic score contrasts with the rainbow-colored reptiles that spit fire, beams, bubbles, and energy rings, and the flying enemies that have crates (for power-ups) hanging from their beaks in Prehistoric Isle 2. When the helicopter carrying them is destroyed, the people communicate with little wacky noises and balloons that say "HELP" in big colorful fonts and "OH NO!" Everything also awards a large number of points. It's a decent, if bizarre and repetitive, shooter on its own, but it pales in comparison to Aicom/Yumekobo's other shooters. It was never ported by anyone, not even as a Virtual Console release, so it's mostly gone unnoticed.

Gameplay

The players take control of one of two helicopters. The main distinction between them is the type of weaponry; both are re-powered by a series of power-ups obtained by defeating enemies. The blue helicopter fires a wide and straight-ahead shot, and the bomb is a massive powerful wave cannon, whereas the green helicopter fires a spread shot, and the bomb fires a swarm of grenades, effectively eliminating the enemies in front. Several civilian survivors must be rescued during the stages to earn bonus points and power ups before the boss encounters.
